WhatsApp Chat Analyzer: See Your Chat Statistics Free
See how you and your friends talk on WhatsApp: total messages, who texts most, when the chat comes alive, and who keeps it going — free, from WhatsApp's own chat export, and analyzed privately in your browser.
WhatsApp tells you almost nothing about your own conversations. There is no message count, no "who talks most in this group", no sense of when your chat is busiest. The Stats Insta WhatsApp Chat Analyzer turns WhatsApp's built-in chat export into those statistics in seconds — the same report engine that has analyzed Instagram DMs all along, now reading WhatsApp exports too.
What is a WhatsApp chat analyzer?
A chat analyzer reads the export file WhatsApp already lets you create for any conversation and calculates the patterns inside it: how many messages each person sent, how the conversation is distributed between participants, which hours and days it peaks, and who tends to restart it after a silence. The export is generated by WhatsApp itself, on your phone, from data you already have — no password or account connection is involved.
Stats Insta runs that analysis entirely on your device. You upload the export file — a plain .txt file on Android, usually a ZIP containing one on iPhone — and the report is built in your browser. Your messages never leave your machine.
How to export a WhatsApp chat
Exporting takes under a minute, and choosing "without media" keeps the file small and analysis-ready. Media files are counted in your statistics either way; the analyzer does not need the photos themselves.
On Android
- Open the chat. In WhatsApp, open the one-to-one or group conversation you want to analyze.
- Open the menu. Tap the three-dot menu in the top right, then tap More.
- Tap Export chat. It is in the More list, near the bottom.
- Choose Without media. This keeps the export small instead of archiving every photo and video.
- Save the file. Share or save it to your device. You will get a .txt file — sometimes delivered inside a ZIP — and you can upload it exactly as it arrives.
On iPhone
- Open the chat. In WhatsApp, open the one-to-one or group conversation you want to analyze.
- Tap the name at the top. Tap the contact or group name to open the chat info screen.
- Scroll to Export Chat. It sits near the bottom of the info screen.
- Choose Without Media. Your export is generated as a ZIP containing a single _chat.txt file.
- Save and upload. Save the ZIP to Files or send it to your computer, then upload it here — there is no need to unzip it yourself.
What statistics you get
- Total messages and per-person counts — every message in the export counted per sender, including photos and voice notes shared as media, with each person's share of the conversation.
- Message distribution — a visual split of who talks and who mostly watches, for two-person chats and groups alike.
- Activity heatmap — a 7-by-24 grid of your chat's week showing the days and hours it reliably comes alive.
- Night owls — who sends the midnight-to-5 AM messages, and exactly how many of them they are responsible for.
- Conversation starters — who restarts the chat after more than 12 hours of silence, and how often. The friend who keeps the chat alive gets the credit.
- Longest typers — average words per message for each person: essayists versus one-word repliers, quantified.
- Most repeated messages — the phrases your chat sends again and again, plus a look at your earliest and latest messages.
- Group leaderboards — for group chats, a ranking by message count with per-member share, so the group's driver and its quietest member are both official.
- Media shared — WhatsApp-only: every photo, video and voice-note entry in the export counted per person, so you can see who actually fills the chat with media.
- Deleted messages — WhatsApp-only: the "This message was deleted" notices counted per person, with a total. Who takes back the most messages in your chat, officially.
- Top link sharers — WhatsApp-only: who sends the most links (news, reels, shopping, memes) into the chat, ranked per person.
- Questions asked — WhatsApp-only: messages ending in a question mark, counted per person. Some people ask, some people answer — now it's measured.
- Biggest double-texter — WhatsApp-only: the longest run of back-to-back messages from one person without anyone replying. Five in a row? The card names and shames.
- Signature emoji — WhatsApp-only: each person's single most-used emoji, counted from their own messages. Everybody has one; now it is official.
- Fastest responder — WhatsApp-only: average reply time per person, fastest and slowest. Who answers in minutes, and who answers tomorrow.
- The great silence and the busiest day — WhatsApp-only: the longest gap the chat ever went quiet (and when it started), plus the single busiest day on record.
- Morning person — WhatsApp-only: who sends the first message of the day most often — the chat's unofficial alarm clock.
- Downloadable report — save the whole analysis as a one-page PNG summary card: totals, top contributor, top emoji, busiest day, night owl, and the WhatsApp highlights, ready to share.
- WhatsApp Wrapped cards — story-ready Wrapped cards built from WhatsApp stats: deleted-messages champion, media machine, biggest double-texter, signature emoji and fastest responder.
One honest gap: WhatsApp exports do not include message reactions, so the reactions chart only appears for Instagram chats. In its place, WhatsApp chats get their own stat cards — media shared, deleted messages, link sharers, questions asked, double-texting, signature emojis, response times, morning people, silence and busiest-day records — built from what WhatsApp exports actually contain. Everything on this list is calculated from the real file you uploaded — nothing is estimated.
Private by design: your chats stay on your device
A chat export is one of the most personal files on your phone, and most "free analyzer" websites ask you to upload it to their server. Stats Insta does the opposite: the file is opened by your browser, parsed in memory, and discarded when you close the tab. There is no account, no database, and no server copy — which is also why the tool works offline once the page has loaded.
WhatsApp vs Instagram chat analysis
The two platforms export your history very differently. Instagram delivers structured JSON files, split into numbered parts, with reaction data included — but the download can take Meta hours or days to prepare. WhatsApp gives you a plain-text file instantly, straight from the chat screen, but with no reactions and a cap on how much history is included. Stats Insta reads both formats into the same report, so the statistics are comparable: run your WhatsApp group and your Instagram group through the analyzer and the heatmaps, leaderboards and night-owl counts are measured exactly the same way.
WhatsApp chat analyzer questions
Is the WhatsApp Chat Analyzer free?
Yes, completely. Stats Insta has no sign-up, no subscription and no premium tier. Export a chat from WhatsApp, upload the file, and your full report — message counts, heatmaps, leaderboards — is generated free in your browser.
Do you upload my chats to a server?
No. Your export file is read and processed entirely in your browser's memory; nothing is transmitted, stored or backed up anywhere. When you close the tab, the analysis is gone. You can prove it yourself: open the analyzer, switch off your internet connection, and upload a chat — the report still generates.
How do I export a WhatsApp chat?
On Android, open the chat, tap the three-dot menu, then More, then Export chat, and choose Without media. On iPhone, open the chat, tap the name at the top, scroll to Export Chat, and choose Without Media. Then upload the .txt file — or the ZIP it arrives in — to the analyzer.
Does it work for WhatsApp group chats?
Yes. Group exports are analyzed with per-member message counts and share, a leaderboard of who drives the conversation, conversation starters, night owls and the group's activity heatmap.
Why does my export look different from my friend's?
WhatsApp writes exports differently on Android and iPhone, and the date and time format follows your phone's region — day-first or month-first, 12-hour or 24-hour. The analyzer detects the format automatically, including multi-line messages and media placeholders. One real limit: WhatsApp itself caps how much history an export contains (roughly the most recent 40,000 messages without media), so a very old chat may start mid-history.
